Meet the maker.

M. Beggs (1993).

Hailing from Dumbartonshire, Scotland, moving to sunny Brighton in 2015.

After working closely with The Set Restaurant for six years, I embarked on a new adventure to Osaka, Japan. However, as my visa approached its renewal date, the pandemic hit, forcing me to return to Brighton without a job, furlough support, or income.

Faced with these challenges, I decided to carve my own path, leveraging over a decade of knife usage experience in hospitality and the knowledge I gained from the master blacksmiths in Sakai. This led me to the world of blacksmithing, where I now specialize in creating bespoke cutlery and jewelry.

My work is a blend of tradition and innovation, using sought-after materials with historical significance. By re-breathing life into the old, I aim to create new heirlooms for generations to come. Each piece I craft is a testament to the enduring value of quality and craftsmanship, designed to be cherished and passed down through families.

In an age where disposability often overshadows durability, my art stands as a reminder of the importance of preserving our heritage. Through my bespoke creations, I invite you to experience the beauty and history embedded in every piece, celebrating the timeless connection between past and present.

Upcycling

When able, I like to use material that has run its course in its current state, be it historic oak beams from supporting structures, wrought iron from dilapidated wagons or copper from an old church’s lightening conductor. The possibilities are endless.

This will give the upcycled material new form to last another life once again.

#forgelunch

Having worked in the food and drink industry for many years, it is very much a core part of my life. Instead of making do with a meal deal or soylent green, I cook myself a good meal to fuel the days work ahead.

Humans working on an empty stomach, doesn’t work - may as well make it a good meal.
